For Non-Coders: Explore Data on the GeoPortal
You don't need to write any code to access live CalHeatScore data. The California State GeoPortal hosts the dataset with a visual API Explorer that lets you customize queries, preview results, and download data in multiple formats.
The dataset is updated on the GeoPortal daily at 9:00AM Pacific Time and is available in both tabular and geospatial formats.
View the data
- Navigate to the CalHeatScore Live Data for API Use homepage on the California State GeoPortal.
- Click the View data table button to open the live CalHeatScore dataset.
Query the data
- On the homepage, click the View API Resources tab and then select Open in API Explorer to open the interactive query builder.
- Use the query builder to filter by ZIP code, score, or date.
- Ensure the fields you want are selected in the checkbox(es).
- Click Get Response to see results.
- You can also copy and paste the customized query URL into a web browser.
Download the data
From the same GeoPortal homepage, you can download the full dataset in several formats, including CSV, GeoJSON, KML, and Shapefile.
To access these data download options, click on the Download button.

View the interactive map
Visit the CalHeatScore Interactive Map to see the scores displayed on a map. Click any ZIP code to view its 7-day forecast, along with demographic information and other community details.
